Ding Ning’s mother told the reporters that after that painful incident, Ding Ning’s mood went into a downturn. Watching her daughter suffer is more painful for the mother:

God gave you some sufferings and at the same time, he will also give you some victories, which is just fair. The last step doesn’t matter whether it is up or down. After the Moscow championship, Ding Ning faced increasing difficulties. Her mother recalled:
“As soon as she got back, she immediately participated in the League. But she was still very depressed that time. With Zhang Yining’s retirement, Ding Ning and her teammates had to carry the banner of the women’s team. So she felt a sudden burden on her shoulders.”
“Before, Ding Ning’s sense of competition is still not that strong but presently, that sense has already changed. In addition, after that defeat, her understanding becomes deeper. Unlike in the past, her ideas were always simple, just thinking of what is beautiful.”

Ding Ning’s mother doesn’t care if her daughter will achieve more favorable results:
“Before, I used to get really nervous watching her play but now, I get calmer. That is because I do not care anymore whether she wins or not. I just hope for her happiness. She is a very hardworking child and I am already very impressed in her current results.”
